Ohio Wine Competition Crowns Top Wine in Ohio – and This Wine May Ring A Bell

The Ohio Wine Competition on Tuesday crowned the 2013 Chalet Debonne Vidal Blanc Ice Wine as the “Best of Show” after two days of judging in Ashtabula, Ohio.

If that wine sounds a bit familiar, here’s why: the very same wine was named “best ice wine” in the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition about a month earlier, and Uncorked brought you the news on April 8 .

Of course, the judges of the Ohio Wine Competition — and I was one of them this year — did not know the identity of the wines when the judging took place: all wines are tasted and evaluated blind, with judges unaware of the producer or brand/label. So suffice to say the Debonne is capturing the fancy of a lot of judges this competition season.
